The Technology Behind Child Protection
The basic protection of children using computers is the Keylogger. It functions by inserting a device that activates a software. This records the string of letters that corresponds to all keypresses made by the child. The parent then needs to retrieve this and needs to read the data to identify unwanted sites. The problem with this is that some sites are accessible by mouse clicks and these sites may elude detection. However, this process take time away from the parent. The Stealth iBot is a good alternative, since this device executes screenshot captures at regular intervals in addition to keylogging. Thus the parents task is simplified to looking at the screenshots to identify bad activity.
The Child Locator is a set of devices that keeps track of the children, regardless of age. A device is put on children which then sends a signal to a control unit in the possession of the parent or guardian. The control unit automatically alarms the parent when the protected child exceeds a certain distance and the parent can use the direction finder of the device to allow tracking of the erring child.
