What Are the Different Kinds of Nurse Practitioners?

January 19, 2010 - 10:03 pm No Comments

You may have heard the term, but may not be clear on what exactly a nurse practitioner is. This up and coming career is a registered nurse who has gone on and received additional education and training within her field. A nurse practitioner may work with or without a doctor, as they can often provide many of the same service that a doctor can without supervision. They may work to diagnose illnesses, help with patient care, and perform nursing responsibilities but so much more. Though the educational requirements are very similar amongst the various types of nurse practitioners, the types are quite different. Here are the types of nurse practitioners that there are, and what they can provide in the wonderful world of medicine.

Family Nurse Practitioners

This is likely the most generalized type of nurse practitioner as they may work within a variety of different environments. The family nurse practitioner has training and likely experience working to care for adults and children alike. They may work within an internal or family medicine practice, or they may work within a community facility or hospital directly. They tend to be like internists in that they have a lot of knowledge in many different areas of medicine, making them well rounded.

Adult Nurse Practitioners

An adult nurse practitioner is generally trained in adult care, and therefore works in a facility to support this type of patient care. They are well versed on diagnosing illnesses and caring for the types of medical issues that an adult may experience. They may work within a nursing home, may work through a private practice, may work in a mental health facility, or may work within a community based health facility. They are often responsible for caring for the disabled or those that aren’t able to properly care for themselves.

Pediatric Nurse Practitioners

This is becoming a very common type of nurse practitioner as they are well versed in caring for children and children health issues. As there is often a need for a nurse practitioner to help out with the volume of calls that a pediatrician’s office receives, this is a very popular role for nurse practitioners. Therefore it is in high demand, and often parents can develop good strong relationships with these nurse practitioners. This type of nurse practitioner not only has training and experience in working with children, but also has the appropriate personality and bedside manner to deal with children as patients.

Specialized Types

There are many different specializations that nurse practitioners can focus on. Though the ones listed above are the major types, the specializations are becoming a rather big segment of this type of medical role. One such specialization that seems to be getting a lot of attention is that of an obstetrics nurse practitioner. They are often an extension of the medical staff here and may help with everything from patient consultations to delivery of a baby. There continue to be a growing number of specializations that a nurse practitioner may focus on as this career continues to become more important and in high demand.

Problem About Math

January 19, 2010 - 8:35 am No Comments

My son is having problems with his mathematics subjects for quite a long time.  He is on his second year of college now, yet, he is still poor solving Algebra word problems.  He wanted to shift to another course for he can not stand those mind shattering mathematic equations every time they have a written examination about it.  But not for now, since he started surfing the internet and found Algebra help, online tutorial lessons, some of his assignments, even on the spot graded written examination seems easier for him now.  He now consumed most of his times, after school, surfing the internet finding other alternatives yet not so complex math-answers.

He can now employ some basic techniques on Math word problems and other Math problems, by carefully reading it, because quick reading sometimes, misses the most important thing for one’s person to solve the problem,  breaking it down into small parts and defining  what is the next thing to do.
